I was very pleased to learn that Jennifer Saucier’s eighth-grade class at Warsaw Middle School in Pittsfield, (BDN, May 16) is doing a wonderful history of the town.
My only disappointment is that the Pittsfield Community Theatre, which opened in August 1915, is not part of this important project. Thanks to the late J.R. Cianchette Sr. we still have a modern and beautiful movie theater. When he purchased and modernized it in 1956-1957 it was called the Bijou Theatre.
The students will also find that Cianchette was also involved in the former Lancey House, the former weekly newspaper, and many other projects that helped Pittsfield become the special small town that it is.
In spite of all he has done through the years, there is nothing in Pittsfield using his full name to remember him by. How sad and unfair this is to his memory.
