CARIBOU – Vinni Nesin hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to give Mattanawcook Academy a 4-3 win over Caribou in the first game of a high school softball doubleheader Saturday.
The Lynx of Lincoln also won the second game 13-1 in five innings.
In the first game, Brooke Hanscom had a double and two singles for Mattanawcook. Hillary Pelkey tripled and doubled and Nesin totaled three singles.
Deni Nicastro and Taylor Trask combined for 13 strikeouts.
Caribou’s Ali Richards hit a double and two singles and Serena Grier doubled.
In the second game, Trask allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven through five innings for the Lynx.
Pelkey and Bree Hanscom each had three singles for the Lynx. Brooke Hanscom chipped in two singles.
Ashley Doucette, Chelsea Bouchard and Grier singled for Caribou.

At Lee Friday, Aarika Ritchie hit two doubles, a single and scored two runs to help lift Lee Academy over Piscataquis of Guilford.
Kellsey Grass doubled and singled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Lee. Becca Burrill added two singles and two RBIs.
Julia Shaffer had two singles and a double with an RBI for the Pirates.

At Dexter Friday, Sonya Forst and Vanessa Leture scored on back-to-back plays in the fifth inning give Orono the win over Dexter.
Orono’s Amanda York drove in Leture on a single and Leture had three singles.
Michelle Chapman singled and recorded nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter for Dexter. Six other hitters had a single apiece.

At Husson College in Bangor Friday, Hermon’s Debbie Colpitts outdueled John Bapst’s Devan Richard as the Hawks earned a crucial Class B victory.
Colpitts struck out nine and walked none while giving up just two hits.
Erin Arnold, who drove in a run with a single in the sixth, scored on a wild pitch, along with Amanda Page in the second. Monica Gallant tripled and singled.
Kacy Harvey and Hillary Laferriere each singled for John Bapst. Richard struck out nine and walked three.

At Howland Friday, Julie Theriault’s two-out double in the sixth plated Kirstie Dawson with the winning run.
Dawson had opened the sixth with a double, then the next two batters struck out before Theriault’s hit.
Dawson also had a pair of singles among her three hits, and Casey McCloskey picked up the win, striking out 12 and walking only three.
Erica Lyford tripled and scored on Morgan Royal’s single in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Lyford also scored in the fourth on a passed ball.

Caribou, Mattanawcook split
At Caribou, Caribou scored three runs in the fourth inning to break the scoreless tie and defeat Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln 3-1 in Saturday’s first game. The Lynx won the second game 5-2.
In the first game, Patrick Thibodeau allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven for Caribou.
Jon Noyes hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Vikings and Cameron Anderson added two singles.
Tyler Tash hit a single and a seventh-inning home run to pace Mattanawcook.
In the second game, Tyler White hit a two-run single in the first inning to lead the Lynx. Josh Murchison doubled and singled and Tash singled twice.
Thibodeau had two singles and an RBI for Caribou. Jarryd Rossignol hit an RBI triple.

At Dexter, the Tigers rallied from a five-run deficit after four innings to pull the win Friday.
Ethan Woodman scored the winning run in the seventh off an A.J. McGowan single.
Woodman hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for Dexter. Rick Stewart singled twice and McGowan added a double.
Anthony Cyr hit a single and an RBI double to lead Orono. Brandon Levasseur singled twice and Jake Stoddard hit an RBI single.

Joe Gilley had two doubles and two RBIs for the Howlers while Batchelder had two doubles and one RBI. Kyle Dickey hit a three-run double.
Brad Brown hit an RBI double for the Patriots.
