Bangor High School

Norris Nickerson, principal at Bangor High School, has announced the Charles E. French medallists for the Class of 2008. Graduation will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Bangor Auditorium. Tickets will be required.

Catherine LeClair, daughter of Peggy and Phil LeClair of Bangor, is one of the top four graduating seniors for the Class of 2008. She plans to attend Boston College.

She was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and varsity indoor and outdoor track teams, and was named a captain for each team. During her senior year, she was elected to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference All Academic Soccer Team. She is a four-year member of the jazz band, three-year member of the jazz choir and two-year member of the chamber choir. She participates in the National Honor Society, math team and academic decathlon. She is a recipient of the sophomore award of academic excellence, the outstanding French student award, Phi Beta Kappa award, the superintendent’s award and the MPA principal’s award.

Outside school she has been involved with the soccer club, Black Bear United, and volunteers at Sunday school as well as on numerous volunteer projects.

Christian Larochelle, son of Carolyn and Jacques Larochelle of Bangor, is one of the top four graduating seniors for the Class of 2008, where he served as class president for four years and was a member of the student council and National Honor Society. He will attend Bowdoin College to study economics.

He was a member of the math team and the Federal Reserve “Cup” team, representing the state at an economics competition in Boston. He is a three-year member of the varsity soccer team. His senior year he was captain and was chosen to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference first team, the All Eastern Maine All Star team and was a Maine Sunday Telegram all state honorable mention. He played varsity baseball one year and varsity basketball serving as captain his senior year and was chosen to the Maine McDonald’s Academic All-State team. He has volunteered in youth sports and helped maintain the athletic fields.

Larochelle is a recipient of the sophomore award of academic excellence, the superintendent’s academic excellence award, the outstanding French student award and the Princeton book award. He served as student representative to the NEACAC Accreditation Visitation Committee and the Maine School Administration Unit Review.

Ryan Bailey, son of Crystal Jackins and Ben Bailey of Bangor, is third in the graduating Class of 2008 and serves as vice president of the National Honor Society. He will attend Tufts University in Massachusetts to study biomedical engineering.

He is a recipient of the sophomore award of academic excellence and the French departmental award, and has been named Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference senior scholar. He serves as editor of the Mosaic literary magazine and has been involved in debate, theater, math team and the talent show.

Bailey is involved in indoor and outdoor track and field, participates in the school orchestra and is a black belt in tae kwon do.

Renaud Collard-Seguin, son of Danielle Collard and Francois Seguin of Bangor, is one of the top four scholars for the graduating Class of 2008. He will attend McGill University in the fall where he earned an entrance scholarship and is in nomination for the Greville Smith Scholarship.

He was a member of the varsity football, basketball and outdoor track teams, serving as captain on the football and basketball teams his senior year. He won state championships in basketball and outdoor track during his junior year. He was the recipient of the Ed Guernsey Memorial Award. He is president of the National Honor Society, a member of the tutoring community, a recipient of the sophomore award of academic excellence, the AP Scholar with Distinction Award and the superintendent’s award.

He has been involved with Key Club, math team, junior engineering technical society team, Federal Reserve Cup and the Junior Achievement-Bank of America Titan Challenge.
