MILLINOCKET – Kayla Higgins belted a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Sumner Tigers a 2-1 high school softball victory over the Stearns Minutemen Monday.
Tashia Daley allowed only one run on three hits and one walk while striking out nine for Sumner. Daley also tripled and singled.
Jenessa Wiley led Stearns with an RBI triple in the second inning. Katie Mills hit a triple and Kristin Albert doubled.

At Waldoboro, Tessa Dodge singled twice and drove in two runs to help push Medomak Valley past Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.
Melissa Ambridge singled three times to pace Medomak. Missy Kent tripled and doubled with an RBI. Rachel Keefe hit a two-run single and Ashley Hunt singled twice.
Emily Gould and Becca Rice each hit sacrifice flies for Lincoln Academy.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou
At Caribou, Tasha Manning hit three singles, a double and drove in six runs to lead Ellsworth to the 19-3 victory over Caribou in the second game and sweep as Ellsworth also won the first game 4-3.
In the first game, Anna Seavey had three singles and scored a run for Ellsworth. Ashley Smith doubled, singled and scored two runs.
Caribou’s Kristen Espling hit a single and a seventh-inning solo home run. Brittany Doak hit a two-run single in the first inning.
In the second game, Seavey had two singles and scored four times for the Eagles. Ashley Smith hit an RBI double.
Kylee Landeen singled twice and drove in two runs for the Vikings. Serena Grier added two singles and an RBI.

Calais splits
At Calais, Bre Nicely’s two-run single and run-scoring singles by Irene Lewey and Kayla Wood sparked a six-run seventh inning that erased a 5-4 deficit and gave Washington Academy of East Machias a 10-6 win over the Blue Devils.
Calais had beaten Shead of Eastport 29-0 earlier.
In the second game, Carilla Fritz had a solo homer and two singles for WA and Joslyn Corey hit a solo homer and a double. Kayla Wood had a pair of singles and an RBI and pitched a complete-game seven-hitter.
Toni Cole’s two singles and RBI singles from Alex McVicar and Nicole Osborne paced Calais.
In the first game, Courtney Hill belted a pair of homers and knocked in three runs for Calais and Osborne had three singles and drove in four runs.
McVicar had a double and two singles with an RBI and Cole drove in three runs with a triple and a single.
Hill, McVicar and Lauren Remington combined on a one-hitter with Whitney Vinson collecting the Shead hit, a single.

MDI, Presque Isle split
At Presque Isle, Presque Isle scored seven runs in the fifth inning to defeat Mount Desert Island 11-8. The Trojans won the first game 4-2.
In the first game, MDI scored four unearned runs to capture the win. Ariel York doubled and singled.
Allison Donovan hit a two-run double in the first inning to lead Presque Isle.
In the second game, Alison Young doubled and singled with two RBIs for Presque Isle. Jenna Stephenson an Kayla Legassie both had three singles.
Taylor Wallas led the Trojans with two doubles and an RBI. Allison Johnson tripled and singled and Emily Staples added a double, single and an RBI.

J-Beals, DI-Stonington split
At Deer Isle, Jonesport Beals rallied with a seven-run 10th inning to take an 18-11 victory in the second game of a doubleheader after Deer Isle-Stonington won the first game 8-2.
In the second game, Hannah Carver highlighted J-B’s rally in the 10th with a two-run single. She also doubled earlier in the game. Breanna Beal chipped in with a single and double.
Erika Hutchins tripled, single and drove in two runs for DI-S. Anika Powers and Abby Grindle each added two singles and two RBIs.
In the first game, Powers only allowed three hits and struck out 10 to lead DI-S. She helped herself out with a double, single and two RBIs. Audra Eaton also had a double, single and two RBIs and Jonelle Robbins added two singles and an RBI. Hutchins contributed a two-run single.
Beal had an RBI double for J-B and Sara Smith added an RBI single.

Ellsworth, Caribou split
At Caribou, Jarryd Rossignol’s two-run single and a two-out throwing error that allowed two more runs to score capped a four-run seventh inning that enabled Caribou to rally for a split of their doubleheader with Ellsworth.
Mike Doucette and Pat Thibodeau singled to start the decisive seventh-inning rally and, a fielder’s choice later, Rossignol singled them home. After a walk, both runners scored on the infield throwing error.
Thibodeau had four singles for the winners. Jon Noyes had a two-run homer, Rossignol had two singles and Matt Kinney doubled and singled and had an RBI.
Adam Kaspala had a double and two singles for Ellsworth. Greg Berry had a two-run homer and Andrew Hodge had two doubles and an RBI.
In the opener, Hodge’s RBI double and Berry’s run-scoring single keyed a three-run first inning that sent Ellsworth on its way to its win.
Pat Kelley pitched a seven-hit complete game and aided his own cause with a two-run double and two singles. Brad Folmer had three singles.
Noyes’ two-run triple and Kinney’s two-run double paced Caribou.

At Thorndike, senior Tyler Miles hit a line drive to center field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Josh St. Clair from second base and give Mount View the win over Oak Hill of Sabattus.
The lefthanded Miles allowed one run on six hits and one walk while striking out eight through seven innings for the Mustangs.
St. Clair and Tyler Rednour each singled twice. Cody Raven hit a double and scored a run and Ian Campbell had a single and an RBI.
Bret Turcotte hit an RBI single in the fifth for Oak Hill, and Josh Prue had two singles.

MDI, Presque Isle split
At Presque Isle, Brett Mitchell pitched a five-inning one-hitter to give Mount Desert Island a 12-2 victory over Presque Isle in the first game of a doubleheader while the Wildcats rallied for a 5-4 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Mitchell was backed up by Calvin Tweedie, who hit a grand slam and three-run home run. Josh Delaittre chipped in with two singles and Justin Gilmartin doubled.
Brennan hit an RBI double in the fifth inning for Presque Isle.
In the second game, the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the victory on an RBI double by Eric Morris and a run-scoring single by Bennett Cassidy.
Cassidy finished with a single, double and two RBIs and Steven Ford singled twice.
Gilmartin and Danny Dunn both singled twice and doubled to lead MDI. Billy Ferm added a single and double and Tweedie had two singles.
