WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced Tuesday that the president has granted Gov. John Baldacci’s request to include Public Assistance to Penobscot County, which had significant damage as a result of the April 28 flood.
“Preliminary assessments have found that dozens of homes have been damaged or even destroyed as a result of the recent floods,” Sens. Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement.
The senators sent a letter to the president late last week urging him to grant the request. Individuals and business owners in Aroostook and Penobscot counties with flood damage should register with FEMA. The application process for assistance is available by calling 800-621-3362; 800-462-7585 (TTY). Individuals can also register at www.fema.gov.
