Big School (Classes A-B)

GREG HIGGINS

A senior pitcher for the Brewer baseball team, Higgins (6-0) earned a win and a save in helping the Witches improve to 12-2. The righthander pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, one walk and no earned runs allowed as Brewer defeated Lawrence of Fairfield 5-1. He then came on in the seventh inning to earn his first save of the season in a 7-4 victory over Bangor.

Small School (Classes C-D)

JOE LELAND

A member of the outdoor track and field team at Penquis High of Milo, Leland swept to victory in three events during a recent 10-school meet held at Orono High School. Leland won the 100 dash in 12.16 seconds, then soared to victory in both the long jump (18 feet, 8 inches) and the triple jump (37-1 1-2).

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

SARAH RISSER

Sarah Risser, a senior infielder on the Brewer softball team, collected three hits and scored two runs in two pivotal Class A victories over Hampden Academy and Bangor. Risser drove in the game-winning run with a bunt single in Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Broncos and went 2-for-3 with a triple, single, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday’s 7-5 win over the Rams.

Small School (Classes C-D)

BROOKE HARRIS

The Lee Academy senior pitcher hurled two shutouts to help the Pandas fight back into the thick of the Class C postseason race. Harris pitched a four-hitter and struck out 17 in a 2-0 win over Woodland and struck out eight in a three-hit effort against Katahdin of Stacyville.
