After driving a borrowed vehicle off the road and into a Bangor ditch around 5 p.m. Tuesday, a Holden man was arrested for operating under the influence, operating after suspension and leaving the scene of an accident.

Daniel Watson Jr., 27, was driving the 2007 Jeep when he claimed to have a problem with the steering and he went off the road into the ditch on Odlin Road in Bangor, according to police reports. After one failed attempt to hop into a passing van, Watson was able to get a ride from the scene, according to reports.

Police soon spotted the vehicle that picked up Watson in the Bleecher’s Bar parking lot on Odlin Road. A witness said Watson was co-owner of the bar, and he was inside when police arrived, according to reports. Although admitting to drinking two alcoholic beverages, Watson appeared visibly intoxicated, according to reports. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He had posted bail by Wednesday. Southbound traffic just before mile marker 182 on Interstate 95 in Bangor was reduced to one lane shortly before 8:30 Wednesday night after a tractor-trailer went off the road and into the median.

The truck appeared to have been traveling south and somehow ended up in the median partially on its side.

Investigators with the Maine State Police and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office still were at the scene around 10 p.m. and couldn’t be reached later to comment on how the accident occurred or whether anyone was injured. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)
