Maine teams run strong at Cabot Trail Relay

CAPE BRETON ISLAND, Nova Scotia – Maine was well-represented at this past weekend’s Cabot Trail Relay Race in Nova Scotia.

The 185-mile race consisted of 17 legs, and leg distances varied from 12 kilometers to 20 kilometers.

The Maine-iacs, who won here last year, took top honors in dominating fashion, finishing in 17 hours, 15 minutes, 59 seconds, just under eight minutes ahead of the second-place team.

Local runners on the team include Judson Cake, Jefferson Ashby, Evan Graves, Steve McCarthy, Robert Gomez, Jeremy Lisee, Rick Chalmers, Newell Lewey, Erik McCarthy, Brian Hubbell, Steve Morrison, Karl Johnson and Matt Hougan.

The Maine Road Hags, a female team, captured first-place honors in the women’s division with a total time of 20:18:14.

The Road Hags consisted of Kristin Barry, Carry Buterbaugh, Katie Churchill, Sheri Piers, Shannon Horton, Christine Snow-Reaser, Janie Smith, Marilyn Hintz, Samantha Matoush, Erin Brennan, Kendra Emery, Johanna Szillery, Kathleen Bell, Julianna Laggin-Nasse and Mary Parsons.
