STRONG – The fourth annual Sandy River Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, at the Sandy River bridge and the American Legion field.
Events will get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday. Lunch and a bean supper will be served Saturday, followed by a campfire, and Sunday will feature a breakfast at 8 a.m. and a paddle downriver.
Saturday events include a canoe-poling demonstration by international canoe-poling champion Chip Cochrane of Greenville, presentations by kayak and canoe experts, instruction on fly-fishing technique, an inner tube race, log rolling and a log boom run. Activities are free.
On Sunday, an 8 a.m. breakfast will be served. Then, a paddle downriver is planned. Beginner paddlers are welcome. The planned route is a 9-mile stretch with a small drop just before the Fairbanks bridge takeout and beach. A free shuttle service back to Strong will be offered until midafternoon Sunday.
