Shires blank Calais Eastman, Bailey spark Shires

HOULTON – Nikki Eastman pitched a one-hitter and faced only one batter over the minimum, striking out 10 and aiding her cause with two RBI singles as Houlton raced to a 9-0 Class C softball victory over Calais Wednesday.

Lainey Herring hit a three-run homer and Taylor Bailey a two-run homer for the Shiretowners.

Nicole Osborne singled for Calais.

At Van Buren, Sarah Long drove in four runs on a home run, a double and a single to power Central Aroostook of Mars Hill by Van Buren.

Ashley Estabrook tallied two singles and a double with three RBIs for the Panthers.

Kristen Vaillancourt had two singles, a double and three RBIs while Jennifer Ouellette hit two singles with an RBI for Van Buren.

At Fort Kent, the Eagles took advantage of 21 walks while remaining undefeated.

Jasmine Cote pitched a five-hitter for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Melanie Allen singled twice with one RBI and Riley Leighton stroked a three-run single.

Krystal Cyr paced Fort Kent with two singles and Taylor Boucher rapped a two-run double and had another RBI.

At Ashland, Mindy Chasse belted a pair of doubles and drove in six runs in an 18-run first inning as Ashland remained unbeaten.

Chasse had a single to go with her two doubles and drove in seven runs. Andrea Mayo also drove in seven runs with three singles and Whitney Flint had three singles and two RBIs. Suzanne Poulin (2 RBIs) and Crystal Cook (1 RBI) had two singles each.

Meghan Saucier, Rebecca Campbell and Kelsee McLaughlin singled for Washburn.

At Madawaska, Ashley Cyr hit three singles and drove in five runs to lead Madawaska by Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Steph Nadeau hit a two-run single while Kallie Pelletier had an RBI single for the Owls.

Sadi Dubois, Chelsea Paradis, Crystal McDonald and Sylvia LaBrie each hit a single for Wisdom.

At Madawaska, Steph Nadeau hit three singles and drove in three runs as Madawaska topped Fort Fairfield.

Crystal Arnoldy doubled and singled with two RBIs while Kallie Pelletier hit two triples with two RBIs for the Owls.

Maryl Shaw hit three singles for Fort Fairfield. Kelly Lynch had two singles with two RBIs while Stacy McNamee posted two singles and an RBI for the Tigers.

At Dyer Brook, Dakota Sleeper tossed a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts to spark Southern Aroostook past Greater Houlton Christian Academy.

Josh Branscom hit a two-run single for Southern Aroostook. Rob Toothaker, Andy Sholler and Dakota Sleeper each had an RBI single for the Warriors.

Chad Duff and Caleb Little each hit a single for Greater Houlton Christian.

At Van Buren, the Panthers broke loose for nine runs in the third inning on the way to a four-inning victory.

Mitch Folsom led Central Aroostook of Mars Hill with a triple and a single, Logan McCarthy doubled and singled and winning pitcher Cameron York singled twice.

Jerry Clavette and Josh Deschaine hit two singles each to pace Van Buren.

At Ashland, Henry Milligan hit a three-run double to highlight a seven-run second inning as Ashland topped Washburn.

Tony Baker pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Hornets.

Jordan Beaulier posted two singles with two RBIs while Tyler Cote tripled and singled. Carl Nemer added a two-run single.

Ethan Doody had a single for Washburn.

Wisdom 7, Van Buren 1

At St. Agatha on Tuesday, Curtis Picard and Cody Chamberland combined on a two-hitter to lead Wisdom by Van Buren.

Picard tripled and singled with an RBI while Kyle Daigle and Eric Bernier each hit a double and a single for the Pioneers.

Alex Martin had a double for Van Buren.

Madawaska splits

At Madawaska, the Owls knocked off Wisdom of St. Agatha 14-4 in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader but fell 13-10 Fort Fairfield in the second game.

In the first game, Andrew Dechaine knocked a two-run triple to lead Madawaska.

Jeff Cyr had a pair of RBI doubles and Ethan Welch a triple and single for the Owls.

Kurtis Daigle and Cody Chamberland had RBI singles for Wisdom.

In the second game, Jason Hoyt’s RBI single highlighted a four-run ninth inning as Fort Fairfield triumphed.

Josh Booth laced a two-run triple for the Tigers. Ryan Noyes had three singles and two RBIs and Ian Towle two doubles and a single (RBI).

Jon Lee slapped a two-run double in the seventh to tie it up for Madawaska. He added an RBI single earlier; Chad Bechard hit an RBI double and Cyr four singles.
