Dr. Kevin Birch, director of music and organist at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bangor, announced that a handcrafted portable continuo organ of five stops was donated this spring by members of the music ministry and friends of music at the church. The instrument was designed and built by Darron Wissinger, a nationally recognized organ builder who lives and works in Rockland.

The Wissinger continuo organ will be dedicated in a sacred concert featuring St. John’s Parish Choir, St. John’s Youth Choir, members of All Soul’s Congregational Church Choir and assisting instrumentalists at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1.

For those who would like to learn more about how a small pipe organ works an open house with organ demonstrations will be held 5-6 p.m. Saturday, May 31, led by church organist Dr. Kevin Birch.

The dedication events are free and open to the public.
