One of track and field’s greatest dynasties and some of the state’s best individual athletes will be on display at today’s Penobscot Valley Conference Class C championship meet at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft.

Action gets under way at 3:30 p.m. at Oakes Field.

The John Bapst of Bangor girls and Foxcroft Academy boys are reigning conference champs,.

The Crusaders have captured every PVC title since 2002. In order to win a seventh straight crown, Bapst will have to fend off a challenge from Orono, the Class C state runner-up a year ago.

The Crusaders feature one of the state’s top distance runners in Kim Spencer, the top seed in the 1600 and 3200.

In addition to Spencer, Maggie Bryan is a favorite in the 800 while she is seeded second in both the 1600 and 3200.

Angel Nelligan is one of the state’s top pole vaulters and has cleared 9 feet, 6 inches this season. In addition to her top mark in the vault, she’s also the top seed in the long jump.

Bapst’s other individual top seeds are Jen Daley in the high jump and Danielle LeClair in the shot put.

Orono is strong in the hurdles and sprinting events.

Holli Kenison and Chelsea Wagner give coach Chris Libby’s team a solid 1-2 punch in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, while Kate Bulteel and Ariel Meeker head up the sprinting corps.

One of the state’s top sprinters will be showcased in Fort Kent’s Jamie Pelletier.

Pelletier enters the competition having run a 13.14 in the 100-meter dash and a 27.47 in the 200.

On the boys’ side, John Bapst is the heavy favorite.

The Crusaders have had a successful season to date while competing mainly against Class A and B teams, and feature a number of top-point threats.

Leading the way is Chris Fogler, the top seed in both hurdle races, along with the 200 and the high jump. Teammate Jeff Sanford gives coach Bruce Pratt’s team some added depth in the hurdles, while Bapst is seeded 1-2-3-4 in the 300 with Fogler, Sanford, Shane Hass and Derek Smith.

Smith is also a heavy favorite in the javelin, with a best of 167 feet, 1 inch this season while Sanford is the No. 2 seed behind Fogler in the 110 hurdles.

Bucksport, Central of Corinth and Orono are all top-five contenders.

The Golden Bucks feature two of the conference’s top sprinters in Dominic Kone, the top seed in the 100-meter dash, along with Nate Warren and Colin Whalen.

Whalen and Vincent Tymoczko are contenders in the 200 as well.

Central has two top-notch sprinters in Aaron Partridge and Tyler Duncan.
