PITTSFIELD – Maine Central Institute has announced its top 10 students for the Class of 2008.
Lori Celeste, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Celeste of Huntington, Md., has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2008.
She has achieved high honors all four years in high school, and she participated in Bossov Ballet Theater, Key Club, math team and the art club. She was a member of the varsity dance team, is a member of the National Honor Society and was secretary of her dorm council. She has won the geometry award, Spanish IV award, advanced math award, Society of Women Engineers award and the George M. Parks award. She was the second-place winner last year in the Manson essay contest, and she received the dorm citizen of the month award twice.
Garam “Ben” Lee, son of Mr. Jong Hyeop Lee of Seoul, Korea, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2008.
He was active on the math team and has served as a dormitory prefect.
Tran Phung Bao “Carol” Ngo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van Thinh Ngo of Vietnam, participated in the Manson essay contest.
Young Mi “Emmy” Chung, daughter of Mr. Seung Nam Chung of Korea, has been secretary and president of the Daja club. She is a member of the Key Club, art club, dorm council, math team and the National Honor Society. She has run track and acted as the boys soccer team manager. She has served as a dorm prefect and participated in Culture Day presentations to local schools. She has received a number of academic awards, as well as the most improved award in track.
Jessica Talbot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Talbot of Pittsfield, participated in the math team, Key Club, drama club and National Honor Society and is a local school volunteer. She has taken a number of Advanced Placement classes.
Ha Thi Thu “Vicky” Vu is the daughter of Mr. Van Khoa Vu of Vietnam and has been a student at MCI for two years, having been schooled in both Vietnam and Australia. She is a member of the math team, was manager of the girls varsity soccer team, has been a Big Sister, and is a prefect in her dorm. She was class treasurer, served on the dorm council, and has been a member of the Daja club.
Jessica Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Trent Richardson of Burnham, has participated in track, played field hockey, and helps train younger athletes. She has participated in drama club and Key Club.
Natarat “Green” Vorachattarn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Yuth Vorachattarn of Thailand, has received academic awards in literature, meteorology and physical education. She has participated in Culture Day and has been a member of the choir, concert choir, Daja club and math team. She also has been a soccer manager, and she has been named dorm citizen of the month twice.
Hannah Snow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Snow of Pittsfield, has been an honors student, president of the French club and a member of the tennis team.
Minh Nguyen “Frank” Ho, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hai Van Ho of Vietnam, has been a member of the swimming club, hip-hop club, fencing club, science club, outing club and the math team, and has taken a number of Advanced Placement classes. He has been a member of the Daja club.
