Artisans of miniature works slate conference

CASTINE – The International Guild of Miniature Artisans will hold its annual weeklong conference beginning Saturday evening at the Maine Maritime Academy campus.

The conference includes about 250 artists who come each year to participate in workshops and seminars known as “The Guild School”. These artists – some amateur and some professional – travel from all over the world to continue their studies in such areas as furniture making, metal work, painting, figures, needlework and much more. Many artists also serve as instructors to these many talented students.

The conference will begin Saturday evening, June 7, and class work will begin Sunday, June 8. The courses and conference will continue through the week with a celebration scheduled for Friday, June 13.

The IGMA also will host a miniature art exhibit in the Alfond Student Center, Harborview Dining Room. The exhibit showcases miniature art work, created by artists from around the world, most of whom are present at the conference. The public is welcome. There is no admission charge.

The exhibit will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, June 8, to Wednesday, June 11, and 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, June 12 .
