SKOWHEGAN – Jaimee Knowles hit a one-out single in the ninth inning and later scored on a throwing error Friday afternoon to lift Brewer to a 2-1 Class A softball victory over Skowhegan.

Meghan McLain hit two singles and a double for the Witches. Leah Jackson rapped an RBI double to back Melanie Judkins, who pitched a four-hitter with 16 strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters.

Mallory Hancock scored in the third for Skowhegan on a single by Megan Hancock. Rebecca McCarty spaced eight hits, struck out six a and walked one.

Orono 9, Old Town 8

At Orono, Sonya Forst hit a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning to give the Red Riots the lead for good.

Chloe Paul hit three singles and scored two runs for Orono. Sarah Thibeault had two singles and two RBIs.

Hannah Morin paced Old Town with two doubles, a single and three RBIs. Ashley Goodwin singled twice.

At Howland, Lee Academy scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat Penobscot Valley.

Amanda Gifford doubled and drove in two runs for Lee Academy. Aarika Ritchie singled twice and Lacey McLaughlin doubled.

Kirstina Hallett scored in the 11th for the Howlers and Casey McCluskey hit a triple and two singles.

At Waterville, Jordan Kennedy allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven to lead Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield to the shutout.

Brooke Libby plated Kristen Sousa from third on an RBI groundout in the first inning and Lydia Fortin added an RBI single later in the inning. Kristen Sousa doubled.

Waterville’s Paige Gardiner allowed two runs on six hits and two walks and struck out nine.

At Dexter, Michelle Chapman fired a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and only one walk and also smacked three singles as the Tigers cruised.

Raven Patterson paced the Dexter offense with two triples, a double and three RBIs. Eva Wing singled twice.

Megan Higgins, Sara Bradshaw, Kylie Jettinghoff and Jana Francis-Mezger each hit a single for Searsport.

At Milo, Erica Lyford pitched a no-hitter, allowing one unearned run and two walks while striking out 10, to lift Penquis over Stearns of Millinocket.

Christin McKenzie, Shelby Fowles and Morgan Royal each hit an RBI single for Penquis.

Rebecca Leavitt reached on an error and scored on a delayed steal for Stearns. Angela Levesque struck out seven in five innings.

BC Patriots sweep Katahdin

At Stacyville, senior right-hander Jillian French recorded 28 strikeouts in 11 innings as Bangor Christian defeated Katahdin 8-0 in the first game and 14-2 in six innings in the nightcap.

In the first game, French pitched a two-hit shutout with no walks while picking up 19 of 21 outs on strikeouts.

Bangor Christian’s Monica Alexander had two singles and three RBIs. Mariah Bach doubled and singled and Christin Pelletier added two singles.

Lacey Pelletier and Felisha Robinson singled for Katahdin.

In the second game, Christin Pelletier singled three times to lead Bangor Christian. Hannah Pray and French both doubled and singled.

French had nine strikeouts in four innings in the circle.

Kayla Stevens singled and scored a run for Katahdin and Melissa Duffy added a single.

At Thorndike, Will Harmon hit an RBI single in the third inning and Keil Lemieux followed with a two-run single to break the 2-2 tie and give Mount View the victory.

Keller singled three times for the Mustangs and Derek Keller doubled and singled.

Dave Searle hit a double for Rockland.

At Dexter, Kyle Gould scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning after junior C.J. Giles hit a two-out single to lead Dexter past Searsport.

Dexter’s Ethan Woodman tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI double in the fifth inning. Giles had a double, two singles and a run scored and A.J. McGowen singled twice.

McGowen allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out 12.

Searsport’s Casey Ashey allowed three runs on eight hits and no walks and struck out 15.

Tom Cameron singled four times and drove in a run for Searsport and Josh Pedrick added two doubles and an RBI.

At Milo, Garen Manzo pitched a no-hit shutout, allowing only one walk as Stearns of Millinocket defeated Penquis.

Justin Pelkey had a double and four singles with an RBI for Stearns. Manzo tripled, doubled and drove in two runs and Cory Barnett hit a two-run home run in the third inning.

At Orono, Colin Ziegenbien hit a double and two singles and scored two runs to lead Old Town past Orono.

Kash Keezer and Anthony Cyr each doubled and singled for Orono. Sophomore Jake Stoddard had two singles and an RBI and Kirk Francis singled twice.

Dean MacDonald hit a double to lead Lee Academy.

Katahdin sweeps BC Patriots

At Stacyville, Andy Kay tripled twice and knocked in four runs to help lead Katahdin to the 24-12 win over Bangor Christian in the second game of a doubleheader. Katahdin also won the first game 14-9.

In the second game, Josh Guiggey and Josh McGraw each had two doubles and three RBIs for Katahdin. Kay had two doubles and a single with an RBI and Evan McCarthy added two singles and two RBIs.

Phil Dougherty hit two singles and a home run to pace the Patriots. Jared Theriault had an RBI single.

In the second game, Mark McGraw had three singles and four RBIs for Katahdin. Ethan Qualey hit two doubles and two singles and drove in three runs. McCarthy had two doubles, a single and two RBIs and Josh McGraw doubled and singled with three RBIs.

Chris Potter had a double, two singles and three RBIs for Bangor Christian. Alexander Harvey singled twice (3 RBIs). Mike Smith and Jon Johnson each doubled and singled.
