Gather up your precious things (or what you think might be precious things) and plan to attend the Antiques Appraisal Fair, noon-4 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Calais Motor Inn.
This very special opportunity is being brought to you by the Calais Rotary Club and the St. Croix Historical Society, reports Vicki Farrell, of the Rotary Club, who is co-chairing the fundraiser with Fred Becker of the historical society.
Farrell wrote that “experienced appraisers” from Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will appraise your items for a suggested donation of $10 for one item or $25 for three.
Attendees will receive a written statement about the item, or items, and may be able to learn more about their origin or current value, Farrell explained.
The staff of Thomaston Galleries are “providing their time and talents, at no charge,” to the organizations, Farrell wrote, in order that “all proceeds will help the St. Croix Historical Society continue repairs to the Holmes Cottage” and help the Rotarians provide scholarships for area high school students.
Farrell added that this is the second joint fundraiser for the two organizations, and she is hoping “to have a good turnout.”
Robin Long of Caring Connections, a cooperative program of the Bangor Y and Eastern Maine Medical Center, invites you to hear Dr. Peter Thompson of Northeast Pain Management, address the subject, “balloon kyphoplasty, a new, minimally-invasive treatment for vertebral compression fractures.”

The session is free and anyone interested in this topic is welcome, Long wrote.
