PITTSFIELD – Town councilors will act on several major summer projects at their regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the council chambers of the municipal building.

The projects include constructing an equipment building at the highway department building, the transfer of funds to pave the sidewalk on Somerset Avenue at Hathorn Park, funding for the Pittsfield pool-bathhouse-restroom renovation, and a contract to engineer the design for reconstruction of the apron at Pittsfield’s Ron Curtis Airport.

Councilors also will get an update on the Summer Street sewer project. At their last meeting, the council unanimously rejected a connection agreement with Maine Department of Transportation that differed substantially from the original agreement, according to Town Manager Kathryn Ruth.

Ruth said the new version has the town assuming all liability for the project and does not grant the town permission to hook up residences to the storm drain.

“This [latest] version is not workable and I doubt that the Town Council would want to assume liability for anything that happens,” Ruth said.

She said that a second look at the project would reroute storm water in other directions. “It will be more expensive and require a few culverts down by the Peltoma [Avenue] end, with a ditch or curb,” she said.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, there will be a public hearing regarding a tax-acquired property as well as updates by Ruth on a large number of ongoing grant projects.
