HERMON – Dark clouds behind the track crept closer and closer until finally unleashing a shower of rain that forced the postponement of racing at Speedway 95 Sunday.
Eight laps were completed in the 25-lap Super Street feature when the downpour started.
Pole-sitter Greg Pung of Franklin took the lead from Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon on Lap 4 and led to the caution for rain on Lap 9.
The feature races will be made up on Saturday night as part of a doubleheader.
Although the features were rained out, the heat races were completed.
Steuben’s Brenton Parritt led the first five laps of the 10-lap Pro Limited heat race when smoke and oil blew out of his tailpipe entering the third turn.
Parritt spun and Glenburn’s Derek Pearson slid through the oil and climbed on top of the tires lining outside of Turn 3.
Pearson’s car was helped off the tires with the aid of a tow truck. He completed a lap under yellow before retiring from the race.
Pearson’s younger brother, Jordan, went on to win the heat race.
Oxford Plains Speedway
Bill Childs Jr. of Leeds survived five caution flaps and held on to win the 40-lap Late Model feature Saturday night. Canton’s Travis Adams finished second, Matt Sanborn of West Baldwin was third, Ben Ashline of Pittston was fourth and Poland’s Tyson Jordan finished fifth.
