Alcohol may have been factor in Eddington crash, police say

Deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department continued Monday to investigate the cause of a single-vehicle crash over the weekend in Eddington.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the accident early Saturday morning which snapped a power pole and sent two people to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with minor injuries, Deputy John Knappe said Monday.

A 2003 GMC pickup truck traveling south on Blackcap Road failed to negotiate a turn on the dirt road about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the deputy. The truck struck the pole and then hit two trees before stopping.

Jacob Grant, 22, of Holden, the owner of the vehicle, and passenger Kristen York, 19, of Brewer were taken to the hospital with lacerations and bruises, Knappe said. Neither was believed to have been wearing a seat belt.

The pickup truck was demolished, the deputy said. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
