For what it’s Farnsworth
The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland continues celebrations of its 60th anniversary with its second annual Summer Wine Fest. From 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, dozens of wines and winery representatives will ply their wares on the museum’s lawn, accompanied by the sounds of live jazz. Among the participants are the Wine Seller, In Good Company, Winterport Winery and Cellardoor Winery. Additionally, chefs from midcoast restaurants such as Cafe Miranda, Lily Bistro, Natalie’s, Union Station Grille and Marcel’s Restaurant at the Samoset will be on hand, offering small plates at cooking stations throughout the event, as well as a selection of cheeses from local cheese makers. The museum will be open, and guests are welcome to stroll through the Farnsworth’s buildings and exhibits. Here’s hoping the weather holds out. Tickets are available at www.summerwinefest.com; price is $69.95 plus tax and gratuity, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the museum.
Meat free at Unity
Unity College Dining Services took third place in the 2008 National College and University Food Services Best Vegan Recipe Contest for its Stuffed Chard Leaves with Red Pepper Tomato Chutney. Dining services director Sandy Donahue announced last week that the recipe by catering assistant Pamela Stone was judged among the best in the nation for vegan diners, with the chard leaves stuffed full of nutritious, protein-dense tofu, walnuts and lentils spiced up by flavorful chutney, as well as scallions and garlic. Unity College is among the few colleges in the country that own and operate their own cafeterias, offering a wealth of vegetarian, vegan and organic options to the school’s several hundred students.
The great outdoors
It’s back! The Outdoor Market will return to downtown Bangor this summer, beginning June 12 in a new location – Gomez Park (across from Opus, next to the Sea Dog, where the Heritage Stage at the Folk Fest is located). What better way to spend a leisurely post-work hour on a Thursday evening than strolling along the waterfront, sampling ice cream, bread, fruits and veggies, jams and a veritable smorgasbord of delights from Bangor restaurants? Those empanadas from Thistles? Don’t even get me started. And, of course, crafts, paintings, jewelry, pottery and personal care items also are available. The market starts at 5 p.m., goes until 8, and will run each Thursday until July 31. Call the Bangor Center Corp. at 992-4234 for more info.
