The auditions are complete and the contestants are ready for the Brewer Kiwanis Club’s second So You Think You Have Talent show at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Brewer High School.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students in kindergarten through grade 12. For seats in the front, VIP tickets are $15.
Kiwanian Herb Hopkins reports 24 acts were chosen. The grand winner will receive $1,000 and $500 will go to the winners of three other age categories.
“The talent includes comedy, singing, dancing, piano, guitar and different bands,” Hopkins wrote, adding that Ric Tyler and John Shields return as co-hosts for the show.
Contestants represent several eastern Maine communities, and Hopkins hopes you will “plan an evening out with the whole family and enjoy some outstanding local talent.”
Proceeds benefit local Kiwanis children’s charities and programs.
Chip Mattson wrote that proceeds from the Hampden Historical Society Book and Bake Sale, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Kinsley House, 83 Main Road South in Hampden, will “support the work of the society.”
The sale includes hard and soft-cover books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos as well as homemade cakes, cookies and pies. There is no admission.
Brewer Garden and Bird Club president Carol Smith invites you to its annual plant sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Brewer Historical Society, 199 Wilson St.
The facility will be open and offering coffee and coffee cake for sale, she wrote in inviting you to “come see our shade heirloom garden behind the Historical Society and buy some new perennials!”
Debbie Paton wrote that the Zonta Club of Bangor will hold its first perennial plant sale, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Bruns Chiropractic, 371 Union St., Bangor. The hosts request no early birds.
Paton wrote that “more than 40 different kinds of perennials, including five varieties of hosta, six varieties of daylilies, 10 varieties of ground covers and many other sun and shade-loving plants” will be available from Zonta members’ gardens and some from gardens of previous club tours.

Hampden Garden Club Day Lily Sale chairwoman Deanna Philbrick reports Bill Warman, owner of The Maine Garden in Waldo again has “donated a large number of day lilies” to the HGC, which is selling them for $5 each.
The Day Lily Sale is 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 7, at Harmony Hall on Kennebec Road.
Proceeds will assist with the restoration of the facility, now on the National Register of Historic Places.
A nonprofit organization “of all abilities and ages,” the HGC welcomes new members, Philbrick wrote.

For folks attending the Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby, Saturday, June 7, on Buck Street in Bangor, Carol Lackedy invites you to enjoy the Pit Stop Carnival that will be held next door, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. weather permitting.
The event, featuring everything from a bounce house to pony rides, will benefit Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Community Food Pantry and Twin City Baptist Church.

Ellsworth Elks Lodge 2743 will hold a benefit supper for former Gouldsboro resident Eric Lutes who is recovering from an automobile accident.
The supper is 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Ellsworth Elks Lodge on High Street.
Admission is $10, and a raffle and dance after the supper will feature fish and fried clams.
Susan Soper said proceeds would help with medical expenses for Lutes, who is residing with his parents, Ginger and Thomas Lutes Jr., during his recovery.
Valdine Atwood reports the 2008 opening of the Burnham Tavern will be delayed this year because it is being painted.
The building is the oldest in eastern Maine, built in 1770, and has been maintained since 1910 by the Hannah Weston Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. The facility will be open 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays only in June, on Route 192 in Machias.
