Distinguished fellow award

BUCKSPORT – Dana Lee Green, physician assistant and diabetologist at St. Joseph Healthcare, has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Green, of Bucksport, practices diabetes patient care at St. Joseph Healthcare Endocrinology Department and Diabetes and Nutrition Center in Bangor. He has been a physician assistant for 12 years.

Green was selected for the honor by the academy in recognition of outstanding contribution to patient care and the profession during his years as a physician assistant. Fellows of academy have demonstrated exceptional contributions to their communities and a commitment to all aspects of health care.

Green is working on a doctorate in behavioral medicine at the University of Maine.

Among Green’s accomplishments while with St. Joseph Healthcare is the creation of a group support program called IDEAL, which uplifts individuals with diabetes, helping them live with and manage the disease through art therapy.

Physician assistants are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, they conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery and prescribe medications.
