BELMONT – The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a thief who entered a Homestead Road home and stole the residents’ money while they slept.

Chief Deputy Robert Keating said the burglary was reported by the occupants at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday. The intruder entered through an unlocked door, took money from the man’s wallet and the woman’s purse and also left with a plastic jug containing cash the couple had been saving for a vacation. Keating said the couple estimated that the thief got away with $500.

Detective Jason Bosco and Deputy Ben Seekins are handling the investigation.
