WATERVILLE – Colby College is getting a $4 million gift from an alumnus whose company is about to open a call center in Maine.

Robert Diamond Jr., who graduated from Colby in 1973, announced the gift on Friday.

His Diamond Family Foundation will give the money in support of the college’s interdisciplinary studies of the environment, energy policies and climate change.

Diamond is president of Barclays PLC, a London-based financial services company.
