Democrat seeks District 27 seat

BEAVER COVE – Democrat Jim Glavine of Beaver Cove is a candidate for the District 27 seat in the state House of Representatives.

A Maine native, Glavine, 54, has served two consecutive terms as selectman in Beaver Cove, where he has lived with his wife, Sheila, for the past 15 years.

Among other activities, he served on the board of directors of the Natural Resources Council of Maine for seven years, was an advisory board member of Businesses for the Northern Forest and is co-founder and president of the Moosehead Region Futures Committee.

In a statement, Glavine said he believes that the communities of Piscataquis County need an informed and dedicated voice as their representative, one who listens and understands the needs of the communities of the region, who answers to no one but the people of the region, and who is willing to speak up strongly on their behalf.

“The person who fills the District 27 House seat needs to understand our region’s issues firsthand and needs to know how to put them squarely on the agenda and get results.” He said. “I plan to do just that on your behalf.”

Glavine said he is running as a Clean Elections candidate and thus will accept no funding from corporations, special interest groups or political action committees.

Before moving to Beaver Cove in 1993, Glavine worked for 16 years as a defense subcontract negotiator and financial analyst at Bath Iron Works.

He and his wife operate an online business from their home. Glavine may be reached by e-mail at jglavine@psouth.net or by phone at 695-3779.

District 27 encompasses Abbot, Beaver Cove, Bowerbank, Brownville, Brownville Junction, Cambridge, Greenville, Guilford, Monson, Parkman, Sebec, Shirley, Willimantic and Kingsbury Plantation, plus the Unorganized Territory of Blanchard Township, northeast Piscataquis County, including Barnard and Elliotsville townships, and northwest Piscataquis County.
