WISCASSET – Hometown boy Chuck Colby proved that good things really come to those who wait after driving a new car he’s been working on since the end of last season to victory in its race debut.
The third-generation Wiscasset racer opted not to rush to get it finished before the season began, preferring to wait and get the job done right. In the meantime, he drove a car loaned to him by friend Norm Sherman the last three weeks. Saturday night at Wiscasset Raceway, Colby survived a caution-filled and restart-filled race and drove his new car to a first-place finish in the 50-lap Clark’s Pro Stocks feature. He took the lead on lap 13 and never gave it back.
Jeremy Whorff of West Bath finished second and father Bill Whorff Jr. of West Bath was third. Freedom’s Randy Turner was fourth and Scott Moore of Anson was fifth.

At Oxford, Mike Short of Auburn lapped traffic to take the lead from Larry Emerson of Durham on lap 56 and apparently cruised to a second straight victory, but Short’s car failed the post-race inspection in the Talking Phone Book 100 Strictly Stock race at Oxford Plains Speedway Saturday night, and Tommy Tompkins of Dixfield was awarded the victory.
