Gatorade names Hill softball player of the year

CHICAGO – Fryeburg Academy’s Hannah Hill was named the 2007-08 Gatorade Maine Softball Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-5 junior pitcher started 15-1 with a 0.19 ERA and 221 strikeouts in 108 innings this season. She led the Raiders to a 15-1 record heading into the Class B Western State quarterfinals. She also batted .458 with 19 runs scored and 15 RBIs in 16 games.

Hill has maintained a 3.5 GPA in the classroom and is a member of both the Fryeburg Academy Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the school Athletic Council. She also mentors youth athletes as an instructor at local softball clinics.

The Gatorade Company, in partnership with RISE Magazine, annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and boys and girls track and field.

With the award, Hill is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award, announced later this month.
