Severe storms fell trees, drop hail Winds in Portage reported at 58 mph

CARIBOU – Severe thunderstorms, high winds and even dime-size hail rolled into parts of eastern and northern Maine on Tuesday evening, with more expected into the overnight hours.

Todd Lericos, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Caribou, said he had received calls reporting trees down in Fort Kent, hail in the Guilford area and winds as high as 58 mph in Portage.

“The thunderstorms were pretty widespread,” Lericos said about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. “So far, we haven’t gotten too many reports of damage yet, but more could come in tomorrow.”

Lericos said the southern part of the state also had severe weather and another round of storms was predicted for the evening hours across the state.
