Bowdoin picks Shibles

BRUNSWICK – Knox native Adrienne Shibles on Wednesday was named the head women’s basketball coach at Bowdoin College.

Shibles, a 1987 graduate of Mount View High School in Thorndike, replaces Stefanie Pemper, who resigned in April to become the head coach at the United States Naval Academy.

“This opportunity is most certainly a dream come true for me,” Shibles said in a release.

She helped lead Mount View to the Eastern Maine Class B title in 1987 then played at Bates College in Lewiston, earning a degree in history in 1991. She was a 1,000-point scorer and two-time captain.

In 1996, she earned a master’s degree in exercise and sports studies at Smith College. Shibles coached basketball at Babson and Elms and basketball and soccer at Colby College in Waterville before moving to Swarthmore.
