EMDC leader resigns; search on for successor

BANGOR – Charles E. Webb has resigned as president and chief executive officer for Eastern Maine Development Corp., according to a news release issued this week.

The board’s executive committee has initiated a search process to fill the vacancy.

Ralph Harvey, chairman of the EMDC board of directors, said Webb and the board mutually agreed to the need for a leadership change. Webb was hired to lead EMDC in October 2007, a position that involved overseeing EMDC’s efforts to improve the economic vitality of Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Washington, Waldo and Knox counties.

Webb came to EMDC from Orchard Park, N.Y., after a long career in economic development on local, state and international levels. He was 64 at the time and was the unanimous choice of a search committee, which selected him from a pool of 28 applicants from 12 states.

Webb succeeded former president Jonathan Daniels, who left to become director of the Port of Oswego, N.Y.
