STOCKTON SPRINGS – A Salisbury Cove woman was hospitalized with a shoulder injury after a flat tire sent her vehicle into a ledge on Route 1 Tuesday afternoon.
Marilyn E. Robbins, 76, was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan toward Searsport when her right front tire went flat and she lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the road to the right into a ditch where it hit a grass embankment that caused the car to catapult, reverse direction in midair and land against the side of a rock ledge. When the vehicle landed, it was on its tires and facing the opposite direction it was originally heading.
Robbins, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Waldo County General Hospital by the Stockton Springs Ambulance Service. The Toyota had $8,000 of damage and was declared a total loss. Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Merl Reed handled the accident investigation.
