Hermon High School

Principal Brian M. Walsh has announced the honor part for the Class of 2008. Commencement will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Bangor Auditorium.

Denise E. Gray, daughter of Diana and Dennis Gray of Carmel, has been named the valedictorian. She will attend the University of New England to study nursing and anesthesiology.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa Award recipient, an AP Scholar and she received the high school Four Year General Excellence Award. She is a member of the Hermon High School Chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of the Key Club. She earned varsity letters in cross country and track and field.

Drew T. Winningham, son of Cindy and Barry Winningham of Hermon, has been named the salutatorian. He will attend the University of Maine at Orono and has been accepted into the Exploration Program.

He is a Williams College Book Award recipient, a Frederick Douglas Award recipient and a Susan B. Anthony Award recipient. He has been recognized as one of Maine’s “Best and Brightest” and was awarded the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award.

He received second place honors at the state level in the Voice of Democracy competition and in his junior year he was selected as a Dirigo Boys State Representative.

He is a member of the Hermon High School Chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of the Key Club. He served as class president for his junior and senior years, editor in chief of the school newspaper and took part in both the senior play and one-act play competition. He earned a varsity letter in tennis and played the piano in the school jazz band.
