A Bangor woman was unable to brake her vehicle quickly enough and struck the building containing Bangor Frameworks at 175 Exchange St. at about 11:15 a.m. Friday.

The van, driven by Maureen Gantz, 60, is equipped with special controls for handicapped drivers, according to Bangor police.

No one was injured in the accident, but the windows of the storefront shattered.

Police estimated the accident caused $8,000 in structural damage to the building.

Two people were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with minor injuries Friday afternoon after a collision at the corner off York and Oak streets in Bangor.

Laila Sholtz-Ames, 19, of Exeter turned onto York Street after being waved through the intersection by a driver who was stopped.

Her 1995 Saturn broadsided the passenger side of the 1999 Chevrolet driven by Paula Jackson, 40, of Palmyra, who was traveling in the proper lane, according to Bangor police. Sholtz-Ames told police she did not see the other car.

No summonses were issued.

Jackson and her male passenger were taken to EMMC complaining of back and neck pain, police said.

Each vehicle had between $3,500 and $4,000 in damage. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
