Hopkins recovers from slow start, wins Sport 4

HERMON – Pole-sitter Mike Hopkins of Hermon fell back early, but recovered to take the victory in the Sport Four feature Saturday night at Speedway 95.

David Green of Hampden finished second, Jason Trundy of Old Town was third, Searsport’s Spencer Gavin was fourth and fifth was Steve Heath of Brownville.

Oxford Plains Speedway

Mechanic Falls’ Darrell Moore took the lead from Bill Childs Sr. of Leeds on Lap 74 and went on to win the 100 lap Mini Stock feature Saturday night. It was Moore’s first career win. Childs finished second, Rick Giguere of Auburn was third, Greg Watkins of Bridgton finished fourth and Don Frechette of Turner was fifth.

Chris Thorne of Sidney led the final 13 laps to claim victory in the Late Model Sportsman 30-lap feature Saturday night. Bill Whorff Jr. of Topsham was second, Adam Chadbourne of Woolwich finished third, West Bath’s Nick Reno was fourth and Peter Oakes of Boothbay finished fifth.
