AUGUSTA – The youngest president-elect in the history of the NAACP has ties to Maine.

Benjamin Jealous, 35, was named president last month. He serves now as president of the San Francisco-based Rosenberg Foundation, which works toward economic security for working families.

While Jealous lives in San Francisco, his father, Fred Jealous, was raised in Maine and graduated from Portland’s Deering High School. He said the selection of his son indicates the NAACP wants to go in a new, younger direction.
