Greely of Cumberland Center throwing star Becky O’Brien was honored as the Gatorade Maine Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

The award recognizes O’Brien’s achievements in athletics and academics.

O’Brien’s winning throw of 49 feet, 9 1/4 inches at the Class B state championship meet was the second-best in the country at the time of her selection, while she also won the discus crown in 158-4. O’Brien won both of those events at the New England Championships last weekend in Saco.
