The planning is complete, and the time has come for everyone involved with the Prospect Community Center Building to celebrate the facility’s 100th anniversary by attending its two-day birthday party.

PCC president Barbara Tilley invites you to the PCC 100-year Birthday Party, which will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 21, and 10 a.m. to 4 .m. Sunday June 22, at the center, 992 Bangor Road in Prospect.

The weekend birthday celebration features “free ice cream and cake, an art display and a Historic Society display in the dining room,” Tilley wrote.

Saturday’s activities also include “music in the dance hall, upstairs,” from 1 to 4 p.m., she added.

Originally built in 1908 for the Knights of Pythias McKinley Lodge No. 87 “for their meetings, dances and a store,” Tilley explained, the building was sold to the club after the Knights “relinquished their charter.

“The new store, Maddie’s Place, which opened May 17, will make the occasion complete,” Tilley wrote.

“We do hope that people will visit for a while, reminisce, and see how the building has been updated.”

Admission is $6, and all proceeds will be used for kitchen renovations in honor of the Giles.

According to information provided by the hosts, the couple has given much to this club, including keeping it going even when active membership was declining, with Lew Giles serving as president for at least a decade.

Club members are hoping for a good turnout to help make needed improvements to their kitchen.
