BREWER – Mark Miller will give a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Next Generation Theatre, part of Between Friends Art Center & Gift Shop at 39 Center St.
Born in Houlton and raised in East Millinocket, Miller has been playing guitar since he was 6 years old. For more than 45 years, he made his living by playing guitar.
A “guitar-player’s guitar player,” Miller knows how to fill a room with heart and soul, no matter what its size – from small hip clubs to festivals such as the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
His accomplishments include opening for national acts such as B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Taj Mahal, Pat Travers, Waylon Jennings, Jonathan Edwards and Peter Wolf. Miller has played onstage with Johnny Rawls, Jimmy Johnson, James Montgomery, Debbie Davies, Buddy Spicher, Jimmy Day and Dick Curless.
He performed with Brad Delp at the Boston Music Awards with Delp’s band with whom he worked on Delp’s solo project for three years. Miller also was the winner of the 1989 Lenny Breau Memorial Trophy, handed to him by Lenny’s mother. It was his proudest moment, he said.
Miller is legendary in that any true legend is based on fact and passed from person to person by word of mouth over the years; said concert organizers: “Mark has made his name as the best of blues guitarist in the state of Maine through persistent travel, dedication to his craft and his love of the Northeast.”
Tickets are available in advance for $7, $5 students. Seating is limited, and reservations are recommended. Call 989-7100 for more information.
