Curt Smith, who recently completed his senior season at the University of Maine, has garnered another postseason honor. The first baseman has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region first team, it was announced Wednesday.

Smith and Mike Stephan of Stony Brook were the only America East players so recognized.

Smith batted .403 for coach Steve Trimper’s Black Bears this spring, scoring 60 runs to go with 11 home runs, 37 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. He boasted a .722 slugging percentage and a .498 on-base percentage.

The Curacao native recently signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. He departed with the UMaine record for career triples (19) and ranks second in hits (300), third in doubles (60) and tied for third in RBIs (178).
