BANGOR – Calvin L. Jolley, longtime resident of Greater Bangor and a local businessman for more than 40 years, died June 18 in Mount Dora, Fla. at age 83.

Born June 29, 1924, in Waterloo, Quebec, he immigrated to Bangor, after returning from Europe at the end of World War II in 1946. Here he joined his uncle Bruce McDonald in the lumber business. He married Pauline E. Blethen in 1947.

In 1958 Jolley started his own lumber and building materials business, Crescent Lumber Corp. in Orrington. Crescent Lumber Corp., under new ownership, continues to be successful today.

His family described him as a religious man who believed in hard work, community service and helping others. He was active in his church and the Masons and was a supporter of the Boy Scouts.

Jolley enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, boating and traveling. His favorite hobby, family members said, was flying small planes as a private pilot. He owned several planes throughout his lifetime and enjoyed the freedom of flying.

He and his wife raised three daughters, Carol Haney of Tavares, Fla., Gayle Jolley of Grand Island, Fla., and Patty Chavaree of Orrington. The couple has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
