AUGUSTA – After going up 80 cents per gallon in three months, heating oil prices in Maine took a breather.
The latest biweekly summer survey by the state energy office found that the average cash price for No. 2 heating oil was unchanged at $4.60 per gallon statewide.
The lowest price, $4.19, was found in southwestern Maine; the highest, $4.85, was in the eastern part of the state.
The statewide average for kerosene was $5 a gallon, up 2 cents from the last survey.
Director John Kerry of the Office of Energy Independence and Security said the best short-term strategy for Maine households and businesses is to invest in measures to improve energy efficiency.
