ACADIA NATIONAL PARK – First lady Laura Bush visited Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor area Tuesday, White House officials confirmed.

“She is maintaining a private schedule,” said Bush’s press secretary Katie Balls.

The press secretary said Bush planned to hike trails with friends from Midland, Texas.

The first lady gave a speech Monday at the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock, Vt., announcing a $50,000 trails grant.

“Things are business as usual here,” said Len Bobinchok, Acadia’s deputy superintendent. He added, “She could be anywhere” in the park.
