BRISTOL, R.I. – A new plan to ship liquefied natural gas to southeastern New England is getting the same cool reception as the original.

About 80 people attended a hearing Tuesday in Bristol on a proposal by Weaver’s Cove Energy to build a floating LNG terminal in Mount Hope Bay.

Most were emphatically against it.

State Rep. Raymond Gallison Jr. said he was “incensed.” He said the bay belongs to the people, not Weaver’s Cove.

Resident Donald Church was in a minority supporting the plan. He said the area needs energy.

Weavers Cove’s original plan for an LNG terminal in Fall River has run into fierce public opposition by those who think it would endanger residents.

The company proposed an offshore terminal in the bay in an attempt to allay safety concerns about tankers traveling close to shore.
