Maine’s top senior softball players will get a chance to shine one last time, as the state’s senior All-Star games are set for tonight at Cony High in Augusta.

Action kicks off with the Eastern Maine Class A and B stars taking on the West squad at 5 p.m.

Miss Maine Softball will be awarded following that game, and the Class C-D contest will start at 7.

Both games will be nine-inning affairs.

Regional player of the year awards also will be distributed, and the games will not be made up if rained out.

The East A-B roster includes Brewer infielder Sarah Risser, who recently helped lead the Witches to their first state championship, and Amy Hackett of Bangor, a contributing factor as the Rams made their first regional final appearance since 1999.

Eastern Maine Class B runner-up Winslow and Hampden Academy each lead the way with three players on the squad.

The Broncos will be represented by Michelle Wells and Lacey Littlefield, who pitched HA to an appearance in the EM quarterfinals, along with Ashley Gott.

Other local standouts include Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln pitcher Deni Nicastro, Bucksport hurler Keely Sullivan, Nokomis of Newport ace Patrice Cianchette and MA’s Brianna Hanscom.

The West roster is well spread out, as 15 teams will be represented.

In the C-D game, Class C state champion George Valley of Thomaston leads the way with five players on the West squad.

Among those representing the Buccaneers are Brittany Worcester, who drove in the game-winning run in Georges Valley’s 2-0 victory over Calais on Saturday, and power-hitting infielder Ashley Geel.

Some of Eastern Maine’s top pitchers, such as Brooke Harris of Lee Academy, Jillian French of Bangor Christian and Washington Academy of East Machias’ Kayla Wood all will represent their respective teams.

BC’s French pitched the Patriots to their first Class D state championship game appearance since 2001, and she struck out 18 in both the regional final against Ashland and in the state game against Buckfield.

Teammates Bekah Smith and Christin Pelletier will join French.

Wood spearheaded the Raiders into the EM C semifinals, while Harris had another solid season for the Pandas.

Melanie Allen and Dawn McDonald, who led Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics to an undefeated regular season and the No. 2 seed in the EM D playoffs, will represent the Eagles.

Also representing Lee Academy is recent SAMMY award winner Aarika Ritchie, while slugger Morgan Traxler and Kayla Higgins, will represent the Eastern Maine Class C runner-up Sumner of East Sullivan.

Buckfield’s Kasey Farrington, who pitched the Bucks to the Class D state championship, leads the West squad, along with GV’s Worcester and Geel.
