Dexter woman puts in bid for District 24 House seat

DEXTER – Tammy Lockhart of Dexter is the Democratic candidate for the District 24 seat in the Maine House of Representatives.

Lockhart, a former journalist and small-business owner, said she would focus on the local economy and attracting quality jobs to the area if elected.

“In recent years, we have seen manufacturing jobs leave central Maine while our unemployment rate soared,” she said. “Now we must look to the future, aggressively pursuing sustainable jobs in the creative economy and alternative energy sources. I will be a strong voice for all of the citizens of central Maine and for the small-business owners who are the backbone of our economy.”

Lockhart has volunteered with the Corinna Health Building Project, the Dexter Playground Project, a not-for-profit day care, the Wassookeag preschool program, Dexterfest, the Abbott Memorial Library board of trustees, extracurricular and in-class programs at SAD 46, and the Dexter Bicentennial Committee, serving as both publicity and parade chairman.

She is a member of Dexter’s Alternative Energy Committee, which attempts to publicize energy-saving projects for area homeowners and research alternative energy projects for the town. She also is a server at the Meals for Me program in Dexter.

Lockhart is married to Robert Lockhart. The Lockharts have two children who graduated from the local school system.

District 24 includes the towns of Dexter, Garland, Charleston, Ripley, Harmony and Athens.

Lockhart may be contacted at 270-1324 or tammylockhart@gmail.com.
