Several summer fundraisers are being planned to help members of St. Thomas Traditional Anglican Church build a new facility in Ellsworth.

The first of these seasonal fundraisers is a yard sale and bake sale featuring Val’s Lunch Wagon, “so you can eat while you browse the yard sale,” wrote church treasurer Joyce Barr.

The sale will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at St. Thomas, 373 Bangor Road (Route 1A) in Ellsworth.

“We have existed for over 15 years,” Barr wrote of the congregation, “and moved from Sargentville to Ellsworth and, now, finally, are on our own piece of turf.

“We are outgrowing our 21/2-year-old building built to be our future parish hall.

“The new church building will sit just beyond the present building and be of a traditional Anglican style.”

The St. Croix Valley Amateur Radio Operators Club annual Field Day is 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Alexander School parking lot on Route 9.

Brenda Hall of Mount Desert Island Hospital wants male readers to know MDI Hospital and the Mount Desert Nursing Association will sponsor a free Men’s Health Screen from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, at the Northeast Harbor Clinic on Kimball Road.

“The event will include screenings for skin cancer and cholesterol; stroke, heart attack and diabetes assessments, body mass index, and prostate cancer screens,” Hall wrote.

Old Town Public Library has released the schedule for its Summer Concerts in the Park Series, all of which begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July through August.

The first concert features Inkas Wasi Peru, traditional Andean music and dance, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Old Town Riverfront Park.

The next concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Riverfront Park, and features Boreal Tordu with Acadian-Maine music.

Blankets and chairs are suggested since there is no seating. If it rains the concerts will be in the Old Town High School cafetorium.

The next SummerKeys Mary Potterton Memorial Piano Concert is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Lubec Congregational Christian Church, reports Ann Carter.

This concert features pianist-composer Gregory Biss, with violinist Trond Saeverud, and there is no charge to attend.

Free intermission refreshments will be provided by the Lupine Lodge.

Jessica Donahue reminds readers the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering the Tommyknockers & More Bus Tour at 2 p.m. July 4, Aug. 10, Sept. 21 and Oct. 26, beginning at the Front Street parking lot next to the harbor master’s office on the Bangor Waterfront.

The tour is based on similarities between Bangor and many of the novels of local author Stephen King.

Norma Milton, president of Caribou Pet Rescue, wrote that “in this tough economy, donations to all public, nonprofits are hurting,” and Caribou Pet Rescue is no exception.

That organization “has seen public donations drop by more than 85 percent in the past three months,” she wrote, recognizing the high cost of necessities ranging from fuel to rent and groceries.

To help Caribou Pet Rescue, the Caribou Chamber of Commerce is holding a communitywide bottle drive Saturday, July 5, at the Chamber, 24 Sweden St., in that city.

My sister-in-law Judy Boothby of Bangor e-mailed that her Bangor High School Class of 1953 will hold its 55th class reunion July 17-20.
