RICHMOND – A venerable sailboat builder in East Boothbay is setting up shop away from the coast in Richmond to produce yacht interiors.

Gov. John Baldacci and other state and local officials were on hand Wednesday for a ribbon-cutting at the new Hodgdon Interiors plant that once housed Etonic shoe.

The company says the move will allow it to add 35 jobs.

The plant operates as a subsidiary of Hodgdon Yachts, a 192-year-old boat builder. The Richmond operation will build and install interiors on all yachts built by Hodgdon while also supplying interiors and interior components to other builders in the U.S. and overseas.
