A Maine native who grew up in Falmouth and attended Bowdoin College has been named by President Bush as U.S. ambassador to Algeria. David Pearce, who now lives in Virginia, is a career Foreign Service officer who served most recently as senior adviser to Ambassador Ryan Crocker in Baghdad. Pearce previously held diplomatic posts in Rome and Jerusalem. Pearce was born in Portland and is a graduate of Cheverus High School. His nomination goes to the Senate for confirmation.
