RYE BEACH, N.H. – Alexa Rancourt of South Portland was crowned the New England Junior Golf Champion at the 52nd annual New England Women’s Golf Association championships that ended Thursday at the Abenaqui Country Club.

Rancourt finished fourth overall among the field of 108 golfers with rounds of 75, 75 and 80 for a total of 230. That score was six strokes behind overall champion Mary Chamberlain of Massachusetts, who shot a final-round 70 to finish with a three-day score of 224.

Rancourt was one of three Maine golfers to make the cut and advance into Thursday’s final round. Liz Coffin of Hampden and Whitney Hand of Bucksport tied for 50th place at 263, Coffin with rounds of 90, 86 and 87 and Hand with rounds of 85, 86 and 92.;

Eight other Maine golfers participated in the event: Michelle Davis of Kennebunk, Joy Eon of Saco, Gail Gleason of Union, Susan Gilpatrick-Smart of Old Orchard Beach, Terry Hamm-Morris of Mars Hill, Prudence Hornberger of Turner, Kate Merrill of Portland (junior), and Shannon Mitchell of Durham.
