Fort Kent Community High School recently announced honor parts for the Class of 2008. Graduation was held Friday, June 6, at the high school gymnasium.
Bethany Nadeau, daughter of Allen Michael and Elaine Nadeau of Fort Kent, was named valedictorian for the Class of 2008. She plans to attend Husson College and major in criminal justice.
She participated in the National Honor Society, chamber chorus, math team, Warrior Words, band and jazz band, dance corps and was a member of the Worship Band. She was awarded the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Math & Science Award, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award, the four-year award for math, English, music, and the band and instrument award.
Nadeau maintained highest honors throughout high school. She also was involved with the tennis team and dance team, volunteered at Tour de la Vallee, Dear Time Reader at the elementary school, and participated in the church band and choir.
Kaci Caron, daughter of Ralph and Pam Caron of Fort Kent, was named salutatorian for the Class of 2008. She plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono and study psychology.
She is an active member of the Natural Helpers, Youth Advocacy Program, Key Club, National Honor Society, student council, youth ministry, Skills USA, prom committee and Youth Ministry. She has been given awards including the National Honor Roll Award and University of Maine Top Scholars Achievement award and received a gold medal in Early Childhood Skills USA.
Caron was manager of the girls soccer team. She was a class representative, vice president of National Honor Society and student council president and was involved with the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp. She volunteered at school-related functions including Tour de la Vallee, C.H.I.P.P.Y., Toys for Tots, food pantry, Special Olympics, and Strive (recreation center for children with disabilities).
Jonathan Potvin, son of Vernon and Mona Potvin of Fort Kent, was named honor essayist for the Class of 2008. Jonathan plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono and student chemical engineering.
He was an active member in jazz band, pep band, National Honor Society, Youth Ministry, and Boys Scouts of America, where he earned his Eagle Scout award. He was also National Honor Society treasurer and participated in track, basketball and volleyball.
Potvin volunteered at school-related functions including Tour de la Vallee, Dear Time for NHS, the concession stand at basketball games, the school store, food drive and youth ministry fundraising activities. He earned awards in track and field events including the triple jump, where he was named Class C champion.
